Colloquial Arabic of the Gulf and Saudi Arabia

Colloquial Arabic of the Gulf and Saudi Arabia

Colloquial Arabic of the Gulf and Saudi Arabia: A Complete Language CourseAudio Book "Book added on March, 27th 2011

[info.jpg]
Colloquial Arabic of the Gulf and Saudi Arabia is easy to use and completely up-to-date. Specially written by experienced teachers for self-study or class use, the course offers you a step-by-step approach to written and spoken Arabic
Audio taken from the cassette that comes with the book (1984 Edition)

From the Back Cover
Gulf Arab is the term used to refer to a number of related dialects which are spoken along the Gulf littoral from northern Kuwait to Oman in the south-eastern corner of the Arabian peninsula. The people who live in this area are linked to each other by trading and seafaring traditions which go back many centuries, as well as by the complex tribal structure of Arabia. With the development of education since the second world war, and increasingly close social, political and developmental ties between Gulf states, a form of dialectal Arabic has evolved which is not closely associated with any one particular state, and which exhibits features common to them all. This is still unmistakably 'Gulf' in its basic pronunciation and morphology, as well as in its basic lexical stock, but its syntax and to some extent lexicon have been influenced by standard Arabic and other Arabic dialects. This provides a description of this educated, pan-Gulf dialect, based on many hundreds of hours of tape-recordings of natural conversation made in a variety of locations in the Gulf.

LEGAL AND DOCUMENTARY ARABIC READER-WITH EXPLANATORY NOTES, EXERCISES, VOCABULARIES AND MODEL ANSWERS IN TWO VOLUMES

Author: Menachem Mansoor / Publisher: E.J. Brill
1965 / pages: 600 / PDF / 20MB

[info.jpg]

The purpose of this two volume work is to introduce the student to modern, standard arabic with concentration on the style employed in formal documents and international treaties. It is assumed that the intermediate student using the readers has control of the essentials of arabic grammar but has not been adequately exposed to modern literary arabic texts and especially documentary texts. Grammatical treatment of the text is generally avoided. This work provides the student with 62 selections from contemporary documentary sources in the arab world. These selections are accompanied with aids to facilitate student use, such as glossaries, notes, idiomatic usages and sets of exercises in english and arabic phraseology, word building, and syntactical vocalization. The sources for the selections were taken from united nations materials, publications of middle east companies, near eastern and western texts of arabic treaties involving arab countries, and various official publications of arab states. This work was developed through teaching arabic, especially documentary arabic, to english-speaking students of intermediate and advanced levels for over 6 years.

Gateway to Arabic is a well-structured, progressive course that has been carefully designed to teach Arabic in a non-Arabic-speaking environment to learners from a broad age range. The series has become well established in Britain and America and is used by a great many Muslim schools and madrasahs, as well as being stocked by the majority of Islamic bookshops in Britain. It is also well suited to individuals wishing to engage in self-study of the language.

The series is intended to take the student from having no knowledge of Arabic, all the way up to GCSE level (the U.K.’s General Certificate in Secondary Education) and beyond.

Book Three offers a step-by-step approach to learning past and present tense verbs, with plenty of opportunity for practice. Each point of grammar is reinforced through sample conversations that offer the student the chance to use the language in a meaningful context and develop confidence in self-expression.

This book covers:

# Over 60 past and present tense verbs
# The imperative and negative imperative
# The nominative, accusative and genitive cases, including the genitive of possession (idafa)
# Comparative and superlative adjectives
# Attached and detached pronouns
# Word roots and word patterns
# Cardinal numbers from 1 to 19 and ordinal numbers from 1 to 10, and the rules governing their usage
# Prepositions
# Dialogue practice
# A comprehensive listing of the nouns used in the book, together with their plural forms
# A list of the past tense verbs used in the book, together with their present tense forms

Teach Yourself Arabic Calligraphy: Five Scripts
pages: 159 / Arabic / pdf /5 MB

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_SYandHDvpd4/SpPwyIpSBfI/AAAAAAAAA0g/EwZBenDA0HA/s400/info.jpg
The book offers an introduction to all the major styles of calligraphy present in in the Arab east: Naskh, Thuluth, Ruq'a, Nasta'liq, Diwani... Unfortunately, no Maghrebi scripts represented, and no Kufic either.

Those scripts are Ottoman and post-Ottoman in nature, so people studying Ottoman (and to some extent Persian, because of Nasta'liq) can profit from the book. However, all the instructions are in Arabic, including the beautiful Diwani example sentences in the back.
